Kit

My Kit

Bike Hardwear

Bike: Trek 4300 Disc

Tyres: Schwalbe Comp CX

Rack: Topeak disc

Panniers: Aldi's own! Triple bags, with rain cover.

Stem Bag: Topeak (to keep camera easily accessible)

GPS: Garmin Edge 800

Water bottle: 1 (you can carry a bottle of coke or whatever extra fluid in your panniers)

Cycling kit

2 tops, 2 shorts, 2 pairs socks, cycling shoes, waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, mitts, sunglasses, helmet. Some spare brake pads for my disk brakes (probably not compatible with anyone else's).

We should all take lights - front (good enough to see by not just to be seen) and back...not anticipating any night riding but just in case.

A couple of energy gels and a chocolate bar - just in case.

We should all take 1 spare tube...we can share if needs be.

Civvies

2 T-shirts, jeans, keks, shoes (and socks), sun cream, toothpaste, toothbrush, smellies. Phrase book.

I'm going to take a good book so I can get away from the others when I need to!

Team Kit - we share this stuff

Toolkit

  • Take a spare tube each...we can share if we need to.
  • Take a lock each...we can share and multi-lock bikes together. My lock is 1.8, long so can do 2-3 bikes.

I will supply the following in the Team Kit Bag:

  • Road map
  • Compass
  • Multitool (including chainbreaker)
  • mini pump (schrader and presta valve compatible)...mine is AOK but a spare would be useful...first to volunteer?
  • puncture repair kit, patches, glue
  • tyre levers
  • pliers
  • screwdrivers (philips headed, slot headed)
  • adjustable spanner
  • brake cable
  • chain link
  • spoke key
  • 2-3 spokes for a 26" wheel (if I can get some as I don't have any at the mo.)
  • set of allen keys
  • white lightning lube
  • cable/zip ties
  • tweezers

And to improvise with:

  • wire coathanger
  • some paper clips
  • sewing kit
  • old tootpaste tube
  • insulating tape
  • gaffer tape
  • fishing line
  • some old rope!

Medical Kit

I will supply the following in the Team Medical Bag:

  • antiseptic wipes
  • antiseptic cream
  • fabric plasters
  • small scissors
  • pain killers: paracetamol, aspirin, ibuprofen
  • antacid tablets
  • anti-trot tablets
  • bandage
  • padding
  • vaseline
  • safety pins

That should allow us, in all but the most severe of circumstances, to get to the next village and pick up any more suitable supplies.

If you want to take any other first aid bits or pieces, please do so...but let us all know - before we go (just in case you're the one who's unconcious) - what you're going to be carrying so we're all aware of what we'll have available in an emergency...or we can just add it to the team kmedical kit anyway.
